March 21st 2004 was the broadcast date of a BBC1 documentary Bob Monkhouse: A BAFTA Tribute. Recorded at BBC TV Centre on March 9th as a tribute to the great comedian, who had only passed away on December 29th 2003.
Hosted by Jimmy Tarbuck (and containing clips of Bob himself) it also featured the people list below. At 8.5 minutes Jimmy and then Jack Dee (10.5) come on and do a couple of minutes each. Jimmy mentions working with Bob on a Royal Variety Performance, which was in 2002. Jack’s joke about BAFTAs timing related to Bob having recently died of Prostate Cancer (aged 75).
Alan Davies talked about Bob appearing on Jonathan Creek and Eamonn Holmes about the UK TV shows he hosted.
I spotted Dominic Holland in the audience and hadn’t known that he was a friend and sometime writer for Bob (see here). He’s known Jimmy for many years and they spoke in July 2024, on Dominic’s podcast.
Bob had given a final performance, in front of an audience of comedians, earlier in 2003 and it was released as The Last Stand.
