Carrying on from the 2001-3 post – here.
As mentioned, a couple of times recently Jimmy has told a story about first seeing Sean Lock at a Kilkenny Festival (see example in this compilation). Which set me off on a quest…which comedians went to Kilkenny Festival and what year did Jimmy first see Sean perform?
As far as I can tell this first meeting was 2002 (previous post).
2004 was branded the Murphy’s Cat Laughs Festival.
Jimmy’s tour in 2004 was Public Display of Affection.
Cats Laugh 2004
Attendees this year (June 3rd to 7th) included:
- Adam Hills
- Ardal O’Hanlon
- Boothby Graffoe
- Daniel Kitson
- Dara O’Briain
- David O’Doherty
- Demetri Martin (US)
- Des Bishop
- Dom Irrera (US)
- Ed Byrne
- Emo Philips (US)
- Fred MacAulay
- Jason Byrne
- Jeff Green
- Jimmy Carr

- Paul Merton
- Phil Kay
- Reginald D Hunter (US – but another honorary Brit)
- Rich Hall listed under both his own name and as Otis Lee Crenshaw (from Montana I usually list him as an “honorary Brit”, due to how many years he’s been here)
- Sean Lock
- Tommy Tiernan
- Zack Galifianakis (US)
Too many to list them all – see Chortle and Irish Examiner.
A story in Dublin’s Sunday World said that American Dom Irrera accused “local ginger, Jason Byrne” (their description, not mine) of stealing his material (sounds like claws were out). And that “long-haired looper Phil Kay flashed his a**e out of the Watergate Theatre”.
Notice that Emo was here (Jimmy has stated he was an early influence) and his old friend Louis CK.
Some of the Bite Design brochure (including Jimmy’s bio) can be seen here. Annoyingly the rest of it (which was there a year or so ago) has vanished. The full version (which I’d taken screenshots of) showed exactly who was playing which venue at what date / time. Some of the names above came from those captures – as did the detail below.
