Kilkenny is a city of around 30,000 in the South West of Ireland (County Kilkenny) and it has an annual comedy festival – usually known as the Cat Laughs Comedy Festival. Or Murphys Cat Laughs Comedy Festival, in the earlier years.
Jimmy has mentioned that he first saw Sean Lock at this festival and, in this post, I looked at 2001-2003 fests and concluded that they had probably first met in 2002 (the festival that I could pinpoint attendance for both of them).
The next time that they were both there was in 2004 (see here).
2006 Kilkenny Festival
Previous years had been sponsored by Murphys but, in 2004, they had moved their sponsorship on to Cork’s rival music and comedy festival (which was called Murphy’s UnCorked and ran on the same Bank Holiday weekend).
The sponsor for Kilkenny’s 12th Cat Laughs fest was now Smithwick’s and so it was called Smithwick’s Cat Laughs and ran from June 1st to 5th 2006.
Apologies if it seemed like I was labouring the point there (around the name) but using search engines to pin this stuff down can be tricky.
These performances were listed as Jimmy’s Off The Telly tour.
