Up The Creek Too was located at 3 Brighton Road, South Croydon and differs from Up The Creek (302 Creek Road, Greenwich, London, SE10 9SW).

February 23rd 2002 saw Jimmy back in Greenwich once again – his other appearances are detailed in these posts.

The 7pm, Saturday night show was priced at £14 and the line-up was:

  • Jimmy Carr
  • Dave Williams
  • Mark Walker

Dave Williams (here) started out as a comedian in 1998 and is not to be confused with David Walliams (who changed his name from Williams, when he started his professional career).

Jimmy’s gig was advertised in The Magazine and there doesn’t seem to be many gigs listed for the London area. To give an idea of what your other entertainment choices may have been, that week:

  • Paul Daniels (Magician) was at Fairfield Halls, Croydon on the 24th (£12)
  • Jenny éclair was at Brighton’s Komedia on the 22nd (£10)
  • Jo Brand was in Hastings at White Rock Theatre on the 22nd (£13/£14)
  • Daniel O’Donnell (Irish singer) was in Croydon’s Fairfield Halls on the 20th (£18/£20)
  • Also at Fairfield Halls, on the 26th, were Smokie (£12.50)

Background

At some point over the summer of 2002 Jimmy launched his first “named” tour: Bare Faced Ambition (here).

There is a Chortle Review of that tour (here) that is dated Jan 1st 2002, which I suspect is inaccurate as the earliest mention of the tour name that I’ve seen was a WIP gig that July. That would make more sense as his first couple of tours went through WIP gigs and then were launched at the Edinburgh Fringe in August.

He was still performing at places like Up The Creek and Balham’s Banana Cabaret, but also doing a lot of comedy festivals too, across all corners of the UK. These festivals included Edinburgh (here) and Canada’s JFL (here).

Plus, he got to make his first business trips to the US – going twice to New York to appear on Conan (here).
